私は京都の美術大学で染色と織りを学び、卒業後18年間にわたりインハウステキスタイルデザイナーとして活動してきました。これまでに年間100柄以上のプリント生地を企画し、18年間で約2000柄、1万近い配色を生み出してきました。現在はデザイナーのお仕事をつづけながら、手仕事による「唯一無二」の作品づくりに魅力を感じ、制作に取り組んでいます。

＜Introduction and Backgrou＞

I studied dyeing and weaving at an art university in Kyoto and spent 18 years working as an in-house textile designer after graduation. Over the course of my career, I have created more than 100 printed fabric designs annually, amounting to approximately 2,000 patterns and nearly 10,000 color variations in total. Currently, while continuing my work as a designer, I am captivated by the art of creating one-of-a-kind pieces through handcrafting and am actively pursuing this passion.

美大時代、染織作品に取り組んでいた際、教授から「手芸をしに来たのか」と注意を受けた記憶があります。

そこから20年が経ち、AIが数秒で絵を描き、友禅染の様な繊細な生地も簡単にスキャン＆生地プリントできる時代となりました。このようなデジタルの進化の中で、私は「手仕事そのものがアートではないか」と考えるようになり、40歳を機に唯一無二の作品を生み出すことを決意しました。

Background as an Artist

During my university years, while working on dyeing and weaving projects, I was once admonished by a professor who asked if I had come to the university just to do handicrafts.

Twenty years later, we now live in an era where AI can create artwork in seconds, and even delicate fabrics resembling yuzen dyeing can be effortlessly reproduced through scanning and digital printing. Amidst this rapid digital evolution, I began to see handcrafting itself as a form of art. At the age of 40, I decided to dedicate myself to creating one-of-a-kind pieces that embody this belief.

私の作品は、気持ちやメロディー、目には見えないけれど確かに存在するものを色や模様で表現することをテーマにしています。日本人独特の以心伝心という感覚、季節の移ろい、人間模様など、想像力をかき立てる要素を織り込んでいます。

私は、もっと多くの人が想像力を高め、見えないところに思いを馳せることで、共感と理解が深まり、戦争や対立といった悲劇を防げるのではないかと信じています。作品を通じて、そうした心のつながりを育むお手伝いができればと願っています。

Theme of My Work

The theme of my work is to express feelings, melodies, and things that are not visible but undeniably exist through colors and patterns. I incorporate elements that spark the imagination, such as the unique Japanese sense of ishin-denshin (mutual understanding), the changing seasons, and the complexities of human relationships.

I believe that if more people can enhance their imagination and reflect on the unseen, empathy and understanding will grow, helping to prevent tragedies like war and conflict. Through my work, I hope to contribute to nurturing these connections of the heart.

デザイナー歴が長い事もあり、空間作りや、調和にも興味があります。病院の待合室や街中など、日常の中で気軽に手に取っていただける作品を目指しており、見た人がほっとするような空間を作りたいと考えています。

Future Activities and Vision

With my extensive background as a designer, I have developed a keen interest in creating spaces and achieving harmony. My aim is to produce works that can be easily accessed in everyday settings, such as hospital waiting rooms or public spaces. I envision creating environments that offer a sense of comfort and relaxation to those who experience them.
